Entries for the National Māori Bowls Tournament, held over Waitangi Weekend, officially closed on the 5th of December 2025 — and the organising committee is both amazed and thrilled by the overwhelming response. This year’s tournament has attracted 76 tāne (men’s) teams and 64 wāhine (women’s) teams, bringing the total to an impressive 140 teams set to compete in 2026.
Such a strong level of participation highlights not only the growing popularity of the event, but also the passion and pride that whānau and communities across Aotearoa have for the sport of bowls. With representation from a wide range of iwi and rohe, the tournament is shaping up to be one of the most vibrant and competitive gatherings yet.
This is truly an event not to be missed. Even if you’re not taking part on the greens this year, you are warmly encouraged to visit any of the participating clubs to watch the action unfold. Come along to support the players, soak up the atmosphere, and cheer on the many talented teams representing your rohe. Your presence adds to the mana of the event and helps celebrate the spirit of togetherness that makes this tournament so special.
